Shame on You Review
Author Rhonda McKnight
RARE book rating: 4 ⭐️’s out of 5 ⭐️’s
Shame on you was a very good book. The characters in the book had many flaws but the lessons learned and forgiveness rendered brought the various situations full circle. Samaria in her waywardness found her calling in the mix of her own storm. Benxi endured manipulation from childhood to adulthood but through it all the voice of her grandmother was ever present in her mind, body and soul. Although Benxi allowed deceit and obsession to crowd her judgement, she eventually realized that her ruthless behavior was not her true self and that her calling was for a better purpose. Mekhi and Samaria’s love story was the epitome of teamwork. Mekhi and his mom’s relationship was priceless. As stated earlier the various characters in this book all had their crosses to bear and in the end their life lessons were quiet rewarding.

Book Review: Though I Stumble by Kim Cash Tate
RARE rating: 4.42 ⭐️’s out of 5 ⭐️’s
The content, in regard to each character's personal issues, prompted a great discussion. We were motivated to think deep and self reflect within our own lives.

Book Review: A Broken Girl's Journey by Niki Jilvontae
RARE book rating: 3.6 ⭐️’s out of 5 ⭐️’s
This was an emotional, heart wrenching book with real life experiences. Although the language was harsh at times, life is also harsh for many young people. Lakesha, a smart 14 year old girl experienced lots of turmoil from those who were supposed to love, provide and take care of her. Lakesha yearned for love from her mother, however her mother was more interested in the men in her life instead of providing the motherly love to her daughter. Her family had no real place to call home because they were constantly moving. Lakesha’s brothers loved and cared about her but couldn't always be there to protect her. Although there are other characters in the book, my primary focus is about Lakesha because like many young girls past and present, their life journeys have been an emotional rollercoaster ride. It's so important for us to understand that everyone has not lived a “privileged” lifestyle with loving parents, people that care about them, a steady home, emotional support and lots of things that a person like Lakesha yearned for. The author did a good job revealing the struggles of Lakesha and even the language is a part of so many people’s vocabulary so she just kept it real. Therefore let us not judge one another any more, but rather determine this-not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. Romans 14:13
Until Next Time, Enjoy the Read!

Book Review: The Liar’s Truth by Ty B. Moore
RARE book rating: 3 ⭐️’s out of 5 ⭐️’s
This book from the beginning was easy to read. It grabbed my attention in the first sentence. Some members of the book club thought this was an excellent read, that dealt with relevant issues for today that few authors are willing to talk about.

The Unkind Hours by Dwayne Alexander Smith, the award winning author of Forty Acres.
Book Review Rating: 4:32 ⭐️ out of 5 ⭐️
What would you do if you could get revenge on the person who killed your child? That’s the premise of The Unkind Hours. The author goes down the rabbit hole and explores that particular “what if”.
This Thriller is filled with twists and turns, human emotion, rage, grief and forgiveness. It takes the reader on a roller coaster ride into the world of madness and revenge.
The Ladies of RARE Book Club would like to thank Dwayne for joining us via FaceTime for our discussion. We all enjoyed this reading and rapping experience.

Book Review: When the Rabbit's Got the Gun! by Brian W. Smith
Book rating: 4 ⭐️ out of 5 ⭐️'s
When the Rabbit's Got the Gun.... It is a given that childhood issues will trickle over into your adult life if not addressed earlier on, hence, the manipulator, traitor, and control freak Lexington Blackshear wreaks havoc on all and anybody he wishes to have control over. In reality, it's just better to come clean and deal with the repercussions of a bad decision oppose to allowing somebody to hold you hostage to your indiscretions. Lexington was an overall wealthy man with an ax to grind because of his own shortcomings. As far as the main couple with the kids and their disobedience when a couple marries and stepchildren are involved, there needs to be a discussion with all parties as to the expectation of parenting for the stepparent and the children need to understand that the parents are on one accord. The mind is a powerful tool and when anxiety, stress and day to day life overwhelm you your deepest thoughts can and will be impacted such that it causes for desperate times which creates desperate measures.

Book Review: Everything Comes With A Price by Stephanie Acon
Book rating: N/A.
We would like to thank Stephanie Acon for attending our bookclub meeting and providing a new perspective on her book Everything Comes With A Price. For every action there is a consequence. There is a season to reap what we have sown. The book is about generational curses, love, trust, obsession, betrayal and redemption. We believe readers will be drawn to the character Island. She was selfish and wanted what she wanted no matter the cost. Loneliness can lead to brokenness, addiction, low self-esteem and self-destruction. Ms. Acon's book is used by youth mentoring programs in the St Louis area.

Book review: Wrath by Cassandra Baker Durham
Book rating: 3.4 ⭐️out of 5 ⭐️
Although, the book had us as readers jumping and trying to keep up with all the characters and scenes, it was a book with a lot of substance. You will see how love is taught and witnessed in an evil way and like the old saying “you can become a product of your environment”. This book exemplified how things that you hold on to that happened in your past can cause you to have a cloudy perspective on life and God. Anger, selfishness, and revenge are byproducts of destruction and will cause you to fall every time. Oh, but when you release and forgive yourself and others doors begin to open.
We encourage you to read this book for yourself to get an insight on how vengeance is not Wilson’s but how he got a glimpse of the WRATH of God!
Until Next Time, Enjoy the Read!

Book review: Abuse of Discretion by Pamela Samuels Young
Book rating from RARE bookclub: 4.25 ⭐️ out of 5 ⭐️
We enjoyed learning something new especially since it was beneficial. Our eyes were opened to an injustice that's taking place across this country. Though this is a serious story it made you laugh and cry. There was some suspence, revenge and a little bit of action! We all enjoyed our reading and rapping experience! #rarebookclub #weread #readingandrappingexperience #readabook #bookclubs #rapsession #bookreview #pamelasamuelsyoung #abuseofdiscretion
