Book Review: A Broken Girl's Journey by Niki Jilvontae
RARE book rating: 3.6 ⭐️’s out of 5 ⭐️’s
This was an emotional, heart wrenching book with real life experiences. Although the language was harsh at times, life is also harsh for many young people. Lakesha, a smart 14 year old girl experienced lots of turmoil from those who were supposed to love, provide and take care of her. Lakesha yearned for love from her mother, however her mother was more interested in the men in her life instead of providing the motherly love to her daughter. Her family had no real place to call home because they were constantly moving. Lakesha’s brothers loved and cared about her but couldn't always be there to protect her. Although there are other characters in the book, my primary focus is about Lakesha because like many young girls past and present, their life journeys have been an emotional rollercoaster ride. It's so important for us to understand that everyone has not lived a “privileged” lifestyle with loving parents, people that care about them, a steady home, emotional support and lots of things that a person like Lakesha yearned for. The author did a good job revealing the struggles of Lakesha and even the language is a part of so many people’s vocabulary so she just kept it real. Therefore let us not judge one another any more, but rather determine this-not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. Romans 14:13
Until Next Time, Enjoy the Read!
